I Read Stephenie Meyer’s “Life and Death” So You Don’t Have To

Just kidding. I read it because I really wanted to.

When I was 15, I loved Twilight. Then Breaking Dawn came out, and it was terrible, and I became aware of how Twilight is generally terrible and specifically problematic, and I got angry. Embarrassed. I felt duped. I hated Twilight obsessively for a bit, following it with scorn but also interest. Eventually, I found a comfortable place where I can acknowledge the parts I enjoy while also discussing its problems. I care. A lot. In a lot of different ways, even all these years later. It’s hard to find ways to talk about it, because most people who know this much about Twilight either really love it or really hate it.

So, whatever, I’ll talk to myself about it.
